Cooking on the Dime - Classic Lasagne

This classic dish is so easy to make and is a crowd pleaser! With this recipe, I’ve kept it simple by incorporating ready-to-go shop-bought sauces with the option to add your own vegetable fillings. This dish is typically made with beef but if you’re up for trying something different, why not try turkey mince? 

SERVES:: 4
TIME: APPROX 45 MINUTES

Ingredients

  •   1 teaspoon of cooking oil

  •   500g of minced meat

  •   Grated cheese of your choice

  •   1 jar of tomato sauce

  • 1 jar of lasagne sauce – creamy white

  •   Lasagne sheets

Optional 

  •   A handful of mushrooms, diced

  •   Half an onion, peeled and diced

  •   1 clove of garlic

You’ll also need an oven proof dish

Method 

Before you start, ensure any vegetables you wish to add are washed and diced and preheat your oven to 180oC fan.

  1. Put a teaspoon of cooking oil into a pan and heat. Once hot, add your mince.

  2. Allow your mince to evenly brown and if you are opting to, add your diced onion and garlic.

  3. Then add your diced mushrooms and continue to cook, stirring it in until all the meat is cooked and the vegetables have softened.

  4. Add your jar of tomato sauce, stirring it into your pan and allowing the sauce to simmer and heat up.

  5. Once done, add a layer of your cooked mince to the bottom of an oven proof dish.

  6. Cover your mince with lasagne sheets, making sure that there are no gaps. 

  7. Then add a layer of white cream sauce.

  8. Add another layer of mince, lasagne sheets and white sauce and repeat until all mince is added.

  9. Finish by adding grated cheese to the top of your dish and pop into the oven for 30 minutes.

Serving suggestion: garlic bread or potato wedges.
