Body Image

Body Image

Body image. Two words that have the ability to immediately make the most confident person in the room to shrink back. It’s a nasty little thing. It’s all about perception.

It is what we see in the mirror. And everyone see’s something different, so don’t you dare tell someone what they should/shouldn’t see, because it is beyond their control. If it were that easy, they would see what they want to, not what they are trained to.

But body image is what we see in our best moments and in our worst. It is when we feel like we could strut into a room and own it, but also, part of it is when we feel like no one could ever love… “this”. The thought is as simple, and as heart-breaking as, if I can’t love it, then who out there will? That kind of mentality will have someone trying to cover up. Or change. And I honestly can’t tell you which one’s worse.

It can destroy you. What you see in the mirror, is not what anyone else see’s. Like I said, everyone see’s something different.

I promise you, that despite the human ability to judge, not everyone bases their judgement on appearance. A person is only as pretty as their heart and mind allow them to be, and for some, this is so blatantly true.

You are beyond the number on the scale and the size you are in jeans. You are beyond the amount of makeup you need to cover up your scars. You are beyond how long your hair is and how tight your stomach is. You are beyond your eye colour, your teeth and your hands. Those are merely the parts that make up you. Those will all change some day.

It is cheesy, but true, and the one thing that won’t? You. This means how you think, feel and react. You’re allowed to take pride in how you look, only so long as you don’t let it rule your life. Because there is more to life than what you look like. Looks will fade, okay? And there is always something beautiful in someone. Always. Just because you can’t find it, doesn’t mean someone else won’t. They will find it quicker than you, trust me.
