Being a student from abroad I chose to work during my studies to support myself a bit and to put myself forward and see what I can achieve. I was hired in a Japanese and Korean restaurant and since then I started to discover these two countries’ cuisines of which I would never get bored of.
From teriyaki to bibimbap and sushi there is always something new for me to try.
By working there, I met people that had the same goal as me and we started going out together and so, a friendly relationship was created. About two weeks and a half ago, one friend said that he wanted to make us some sushi and we were all excited, as we all knew that his skills were good as he has been spending some time with a professional sushi chef. At that time, I was in Romania, my home country and they delayed the ‘Sushi Day’ just so I could participate.
Nowadays sushi is more and more common to be consumed as a lunch or dinner meal as it has low calories and high protein. Japan is known for having the lowest number of obese people and it is very much appreciated because of this and sushi and miso should be thanked.
My friends and I all have our differences and there are times when we may have our disagreements, however we manage to get along and celebrating with sushi was a very nice and yummy way to do it. What he told me is very important, and he took much care preparing the rice, as it needed to be prepared in a specific way. The sushi that we had was salmon and avocado, crabstick and avocado and chicken with avocado. The seaweed in which the sushi was wrapped along with the soya sauce helped in giving an authentic taste.
This gathering with my work colleagues meant some good food and good company and now started, I believe it will keep going, so my expectations are high. Finding new things about different cultures has always been my passion and I enjoy it when I can apply them in my life. Sushi brings people together and I can agree that being there and realizing that made me have such a good smile for days.
