Early in June I got the opportunity to spend some time at the organisation known as Survivors in Transition. An organisation that looks to help people who went through childhood sexual abuse, and they do.
I myself went through sexual abuse online, being blackmailed with indecent photos so I was more then happy to go along and really scope this place out... I was glad I did.
The ethos and environment that SITs has created is nothing short of amazing, and what really makes it that way is the people. I got to meet people from Fiona, the founder, some of the support workers and even their social media consultant. Everyone made it feel that this wasn’t necessarily a job to them, but a passion for helping people and they are doing just that.
Please if you have been through something that you are scared to talk to someone about, go talk to these amazing people, it will help you.
Or alternatively if you want to get involved and help out, they have a sign that they are looking for artists to write a quote or do some artwork on once a week. It’s a great way to get involved and spread a little joy.
Speak up Speak out has always been more then just bullying, its entire purpose is to empower people and to show them how strong they actually are. One of my quotes that I put on the board was ‘we find what we look for, so look for love’ and that is one of the truest pieces of advice I can offer. Help is out there, and SIT is one of the best places to look.
